Marriott petition to the FCC to block personal Wi-Fi meets big resistance

In a move that could save travelers a lot of money on Internet access, Marriott will offer free basic Wi-Fi to guests who are enrolled in its rewards program, and who book directly through the company, beginning Jan. 15.


But wait — that's not all.


Marriott, along with other lodging-industry companies, is simultaneously petitioning the FCC for the ability to block guests' personal Wi-Fi, including Mi-Fi devices or smartphones used as hotspots. The petition says it is in the interest of security, and that guests could use their devices to attack the hotel's network, or steal information from other guests. Read more...
