When a major winter storm comes to town, what do you do? Hunker down, make sure you have enough emergency supplies, look for a cuddle buddy on Craigslist — and then illegally download some TV content.
That's what happened during this week's nor’easter, according to Irdeto, a Netherlands-based company that tracks illegal downloading for media clients. The company uses proprietary tracking software to tag particular network-owned content on BitTorrent — and if you were one of the people who downloaded those shows, it knows where you live.
