Creator of board game Operation needs money for a real operation

A sad bit of news that’ll have you feeling all kinds of nostalgic: The inventor of the classic board game Operation needs an operation.


John Spinello invented a bare-bones version of what would one day become Operation in 1964. He sold his prototype to a toy invention company for $500. Milton Bradley licensed the idea, and the game of Operation was born.



Fast-forward to now — some 50 years later — and 77-year-old John Spinello is in a difficult financial situation.
