Indonesia ends AirAsia recovery mission despite retrieving only 70 victims

The Indonesian military has called off the retrieval mission for the wreckage of crashed AirAsia Flight QZ8501, according to Channel News Asia.


Multiple attempts to retrieve the main body of the Airbus A320-200, also known as the fuselage, have failed due to the deteriorated state of the craft. The second and final recovery attempt on Sunday failed after the rope linking the lifting balloons broke and the wreckage sank back to the ocean floor, in two pieces



The Navy said Tuesday it could not retrieve the badly damaged fuselage and that no more bodies had been found within the plane's wreckage, despite expectations the majority of victims would be inside. Only 70 bodies have been recovered from the crash site Read more...
