When Amazon announced its cylinder-shaped Echo device in November, interested consumers were placed on a waiting list to purchase the product. Now the online retailer has invited many of those people to buy the Echo, which acts as both a speaker and a type of personal assistant for the home.
While invitations have trickled out since the announcement, and some of the devices have already shipped, a larger pool of invitations was sent to customers on Tuesday.
Either demand is high or inventory is still low because the website indicates the product won't ship until June. However, Amazon customers will have to decide soon if they want to make a purchase — invitations are good for only seven days. Read more...
