Apple told to pay half a billion dollars to possible 'patent troll'

A federal jury has ordered Apple to pay $532.9 million to a Texas company that claims some iTunes software infringed on its patents.


The Tyler, Texas-based company, Smartflash, accused Apple of infringing on three patents, and sought $852 million in damages



Apple denies any wrongdoing and plans to appeal — and it has had a history of success when it comes getting big jury settlements overturned
