Somewhere between Yuma and Phoenix, Arizona on a desolate stretch of 2,400 acres of land, major construction has completed on the world’s largest fully-operational solar-power plant. Known as Agua Caliente, at peak capacity the plant can power 230,000 homes with 290 megawatts of power, similar the average coal-fired power plant. The power will be used by the San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Co. and is just one more step in California’s drive to get a third of its power from renewable sources.
