Hello! Welcome to the Friday open thread, where rustlers, cutthroats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, and Methodists eat beans around a campfire and cause global warming.

Installing a prehung door—that is, a door that is already hanging in its own frame—simplifies the installation process, but that doesn't mean it's easy. You'll still have to adjust doors and jambs to compensate for imperfections in a wall frame.
What's that? You carved a pumpkin? That’s cute.
Nick Thomas and Steve Jandick are the Shaq and Kobe of synchronized Halloween lights— admittedly, there isn’t much competition out there to be the Shaq and Kobe of this very niche thing, but it’s still pretty cool.
According to the Chicago Tribune , the Naperville, Illinois duo spent a full month programming and setting up the lights for the show. The monthlong halloween display features songs from Queen, Eric Church (featured above), Eminem and others.
“With the lights and music, [Steve Jandick's] taken it to a new level,” Thomas told the Tribune. “Just one song takes him almost 40 hours to program the lights on the computer, and by now there are 32 songs." Read more...

When cash starts flying (literally), people go crazy.
Motorists driving along I-270 near Urbana, Maryland, lost their minds Friday morning when they witnessed what many people dream of: money flying everywhere
At approximately 8 a.m. ET, a malfunctioning door of an armored vehicle owned by Canada-based company GardaWorld led to a bag of cash falling onto the highway, the Washington Post reported. Initially, the incident was thought to be a crash that involved an armored vehicle.
Flying money has a tendency to impair people's judgement, and many motorists stopped their vehicles to collect the cash. Police said that so many vehicles stopped to collect the dough that traffic in the northbound lanes was at a standstill Read more...
Thousands of costumed revelers paraded up Sixth Avenue during the annual Village Halloween Parade in New York City
It was elbow-to-elbow at times as onlookers and participants in the parade—which was started in the 1970s—swarmed the packed route through Greenwich Village.
The grand marshal of the night, Whoopi Goldberg, was decked out in shades of pink and purple from head to toe, with a ring of roses around her neck—perhaps a nod to the parade’s theme, Garden of Earthly Delights. Goldberg’s granddaughter accompanied her dressed as a bumblebee, she said on Facebook. Read more...
Smartphones are ever-slimming, and Samsung's just-announced Galaxy A5 and A3 models are another indication of the trend. And it couldn't be a better time, as the company is trying to stay afloat amid fierce competition
The A5 and A3 clock in at just 6.7mm and 6.9mm thin, respectively. Of course, that's nowhere near where some smartphone designers are going, but for a mainstream audience that's pretty slender
According to CNET , Samsung is struggling in the smartphone business as of late. The company has even pledged to "reform" its products at a fundamental level Read more...
On September 17, 1908, Army Lt. Thomas Selfridge made the fateful decision to get into an airplane with Orville Wright. It made sense for him to go: The Army had a deal to buy one of the Wright Brothers' planes, and Selfridge had designed and piloted a plane of his own a few months earlier. Wright had already taken two other officers for a spin without incident, and the first four circuits he took with Selfridge of Fort Myer, Virginia, went fine
But on the fifth loop around, the right propeller cracked, hit one of the plane's guy wires, and shattered. Despite Wright's best efforts to glide down, the plane smashed into the ground. He suffered serious injuries. Selfridge suffered a skull fracture and died that night — the first ever fatality in the history of powered aviation. He was 26 Read more...
In the middle of the Twilight media storm of 2008, a film called Let the Right One In came out of Sweden with the completely opposite take on how to make a "vampire movie". The film was an instant hit with filmmakers and critics across the board because of its perfect, minimal approach to horror set in the quiet snowscape of Sweden.
Anything fun or worth doing usually requires a bit of crazy. But this, this is basically all crazy, which must mean it's a ridiculous amount of fun. Valentin Delluc flies his paraglider so close to the ground and rips off spins and twirls so fast that it's hard to believe. Hell, just watching him zip by makes me nervous for him.
