The State of the Union is known as much for inspiring tales of Americans from many walks of life as for its rundown of policies. Traditionally, the First Lady invites guests to sit in the gallery with her during the address
The guests are representative of larger issues the president discusses during the address, and have often met with him in the past. This year's VIPs include a slew of letter writers, an astronaut, a climate scientist and a wounded veteran among others.
